History
of Christian Art and Christian Art Prints
Christian art has been a vital part of the church throughout its
history. It has been used both to exalt the Savior and train the
church in biblical truths. While the early church was persecuted
in the years following the resurrection Christian art was confined
to the catacombs and private "house churches". It wasn't
until 312 A.D. when the Roman Emperor Constantine ended persecution
of the church, embracing the Christian faith that Christian art
found its way to more public spaces. During the centuries that followed
Christian art adorned the walls of religious structures from simple
shrines to the great basilicas. Not until the advent of the printing
press did Christian prints make their way into the hands of believers.
Today we enjoy volumes of Christian art prints from the great masters
Michelangelo, Rembrandt and Da Vinci in the comfort of our homes.
